Did you know Aditya Chopra left home, stayed in hotel after Yash Chopra and Pamela Chopra didn't approve his relationship with Rani Mukerji?

Rani Mukerji hails from the esteemed Mukherjee-Samarth family. She debuted in Biyer Phool (1996) and Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat the same year. With iconic roles in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Hum Tum, and more, she married YRF’s Aditya Chopra in 2014 and welcomed daughter Adira in 2015.
Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra are happily married, but their relationship faced challenges in the beginning. Reports suggest that Aditya’s parents, Yash and Pamela Chopra, were not pleased with their son’s choice. Rani and Aditya started dating soon after he divorced his first wife, Payal Chopra.
Rani blamed for Aditya’s divorce
Even though Payal and Aditya moved on, Rani was blamed for their divorce and labeled a home breaker. Yash and Pamela Chopra, who were very fond of Payal, were reportedly hesitant to accept Rani. According to Mumbai Mirror, tensions were high in the Chopra family, and Yash Chopra allegedly asked Aditya to leave home. Aditya then stayed in a hotel for a while.

Pamela Chopra’s change of heart
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, when Aditya left home, Pamela Chopra struggled with the situation as she deeply loved her son. Wanting to mend the rift, she eventually accepted Rani as her daughter-in-law. A family source revealed that Aditya returned home because of his mother’s insistence, though tensions still lingered. He reportedly made it clear that he would move back only if his parents did not interfere in his personal life.
From friendship to love
After Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Aditya Chopra gained recognition as an independent director. Rani once met him at Mumbai’s Sampan Hotel but did not approach him for a role, which caught his attention. Impressed by her work, Aditya later recommended her to Karan Johar for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

Aditya and Rani didn’t fall in love instantly. Their bond grew stronger with each YRF film they worked on. After Aditya separated from his first wife, Payal Khanna, in 2009, Rani was also going through a tough time. They found comfort in each other, eventually leading to a lifelong relationship.
