When Jaya Bachchan said Amitabh Bachchan was not 'romantic' as she called herself his 'last priority': 'Maybe if he had a girlfriend...'

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s love story traces back to Guddi (1971), where Amitabh was initially considered for the lead role. However, it was during Ek Nazar (1972) that their bond truly deepened. Their shared passion for cinema brought them closer, turning a professional collaboration into a timeless romance.
While fans admire Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan’s enduring love story despite its challenges, Jaya surprised many when she candidly revealed that Amitabh has been rather unromantic throughout their relationship.
During a 1998 episode of Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, Simi asked Jaya if Amitabh was romantic in real life. Before Jaya could answer, Amitabh jumped in with a firm “no.” Without missing a beat, Jaya added, “Not with me.”Laughing at the exchange, Simi joked that she had stirred up trouble. When Amitabh asked what being romantic meant, Jaya explained it involved surprises like flowers and wine. She then revealed that Amitabh is extremely shy, to which he admitted that he had never done such things.
Jaya playfully remarked that maybe Amitabh would have been romantic if he had a girlfriend. When Simi asked if he had shown any romance during their courtship, Jaya replied, “No, he never spoke.” Amitabh, in his signature style, quipped, “It’s a waste of time.”
In the iconic interview, Jaya candidly shared Amitabh’s priorities, stating that his parents, children, and work came first. She humorously added that she might even come after someone else, like his makeup artist, admitting, “I am his last priority.”

As the video resurfaces on social media, netizens have shared mixed reactions, with many sympathizing with Jaya. Comments such as “She’s a courageous woman” and “It’s sad that she felt this way, but it shows her strength and patience” highlight the admiration and empathy pouring in.
