Actor-director Ranjeet revealed facing issues with Rekha during a film shoot, leading him to ask her to return the signing amount.
In a podcast with Vickey Lalwani, Ranjeet shared how he grew tired of being typecast in villainous roles, prompting him to produce his own films. One such project was set to feature Rekha. He revealed that for ten years, he stopped signing films, focusing solely on his own productions.
While discussing his 1990 film Kaarnama, Ranjeet shared that he cast Rekha due to their long-standing friendship and because she suited the role. Despite knowing she had accepted a lower fee elsewhere, he paid her full asking price, ensuring professionalism and fairness in his production.Ranjeet acknowledged Rekha’s well-known tantrums but didn’t mind due to their close bond. He shared that while producers waited outside her house, he could walk in freely, and she even visited his home barefoot, highlighting their unique friendship and mutual understanding.
However, things took a turn when Rekha insisted on daytime shoots. Ranjeet, prioritizing his own production, refused to accommodate her demands. Realizing he might end up like other producers waiting at her doorstep, he asked her to return the signing amount. They mutually agreed to part ways on good terms.
Ranjeet revealed that Rekha’s changing equations with Amitabh Bachchan influenced her decisions. She insisted on returning to Mumbai every evening, conflicting with his shoot schedule. Additionally, she was uncomfortable with a dance director, forcing a replacement. Frustrated by these demands, Ranjeet ultimately decided to part ways with her.
Kaarnama, produced and directed by Ranjeet, featured a star-studded cast, including Vinod Khanna, Kimi Katkar, Farha Naaz, Neena Gupta, Paintal, Nirupa Roy, and Amrish Puri.
