Unlike all the traditional historical films, ‘Rang De Basanti'(2006) directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra draws a line connecting today’s India’s youth to its revolutionary history. It follows a bunch of laid-back college students who after acting in a documentary as Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, and their fellow revolutionaries, begin to realize the dreadful state of corruption and injustice permeating modern India. Their metamorphosis is akin to the fierce spirit of the martyrs, hence, making the film an intriguing take on patriotism. The film connected to the people on an unparalleled level deeply and emerged as a cultural sensation and revolved around its emotionally charged storytelling, soul-stirring music, and strong performances.
