Taxpayers currently under investigation have a window to rectify their filings by submitting revised income tax returns before the deadline of March 31, 2025, said Income Tax Department, Tamil Nadu.
Employees of various public sector undertakings (PSUs) and corporates have made fraudulent claims in their Income Tax returns (ITRs) and received huge refunds by evading income tax.
The Investigation Wing of the Income Tax Department, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, has busted multiple rackets involving income tax practitioners (ITP), chartered accountants (CA), middlemen and employees.
During the enforcement actions conducted by the income tax sleuths across Tamil Nadu and in the districts bordering the neighbouring States, it is found that ITPs and CAs, along with certain intermediaries have facilitated tax frauds by generating bogus donation receipts, claiming false medical expenditure claims, fabricated rental agreements, and incorrect exempt allowances, said a press note from the Income Tax Department, Tamil Nadu.
