Lulu Group has launched its global agricultural production initiative at Pollachi in Coimbatore district on 160 acres.

The seed planting activity was carried out on 50 acres at Ganapathipalayam, managed by Lulu Group, in the first phase. This initiative was carried out in partnership with Farmers Producers Associations and local farmers in the region.

Lulu would support the local farmers in the production of vegetables and fruits, including bananas, coconuts, drumsticks, onions, and snake gourds. “The Group is committed to organic farming methods, utilising natural fertilizers to maintain soil fertility,” a press release from the company said.

The project aimed to promote sustainable farming and empower local farmers by providing them with the necessary resources and expertise to enhance their agricultural practices.

Lulu’s Fair Exports division would focus on procurement, production, package, and reach of the products to its customers of hypermarkets.

Salim M.A., director of global operations at Lulu, planted saplings to mark the beginning of the project. He also handed over seeds and saplings to students of St.Mary’s School, Ganapathipalayam, to highlight the importance of agriculture. Additionally, as part of Lulu Fish Farming, 5,000 fish fingerlings were introduced into the water, the release added.
