Recalling the incident during his conversation with Preity Zinta on her chat show , Shah Rukh shared that he was playing catch-catch with his friend Tarachand when, by mistake, he threw the ball too hard and it struck him in the face and breaking his teeth. Scared of the consequences, he sat at home, anxiously waiting for what was to come. His fears turned real when Tarachand’s father, furious and intoxicated, came knocking at his door.
SRK added that his father answered the door and later told him that someone was there to see him. As he stepped out, his father shut the door behind him, leaving him alone with Tarachand’s enraged father, who was holding a knife and was also drunk. Meanwhile, his mother, worried and upset, questioned his father’s decision to send him out. His father, however, stood firm, believing that if Shah Rukh had done something wrong, he had to face it, and if he hadn’t, he would be able to convince the man.
Summoning his courage, young Shah Rukh managed to convince Tarachand’s father that it was an accident and that he had not hit his son intentionally. His words worked, and the situation diffused without any harm.
Later, his father explained his decision, telling him that it was important to take responsibility for one’s actions. If he had indeed made a mistake, he needed to confront it, and if he was innocent, people would eventually understand. However, he expressed confidence that Shah Rukh would be able to handle the situation.
Looking back at the experience, Shah Rukh reflected on how his mother may have resented his father’s choice that day, but for him, it remained one of the most significant learning moments of his life.
