Collins Aerospace, a part of RTX Corporation a Virginia-based aerospace and defence conglomerate, opened its new engineering development and test centre (EDTC) in Bengaluru.

The company said the new facility would streamline product development, testing, and certification of components locally, bringing aerospace technologies to market faster.

Initially, the EDTC would support Collins Aerospace, including its avionics, advanced structures, interiors, and power and controls businesses. However, in the future, the facility would expand to serve all RTX businesses, supporting a broader range of aerospace and defence applications and allowing for shared innovation across the company’s diverse product portfolio, said company officials at a media conference on Wednesday.

“The EDTC strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality, mission-critical systems that meet the needs of customers in India and around the world,” said Clay Lindwall, senior vice president of engineering and technology at Collins Aerospace.

Tests available at this facility simulate harsh aircraft operating conditions and address potential issues, including extreme temperatures, high altitudes, vibration, and electromagnetic interference. This would help Collins quickly identify if any adjustments were required in the development process, thereby improving product design while reducing both time and cost, the company explained.

Savyasachi Srinivas, vice president of Global Engineering and Technology Centre said “This investment brings advanced testing capabilities closer to where engineering and manufacturing happen and recognises the country’s strategic importance in the global supply chain.’‘

Collins Aerospace has been investing in India for over two decades and employs over 6,000 employees in the country across engineering, digital, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain functions.
