Chitrangda Singh reveals she rejected seductress roles after her bold appearance in ‘Aao Raja’: 'If you say no, they call you too choosy'

Chitrangda Singh, known for her versatile performances recently opened up about the challenges of being typecast in Bollywood. In a conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress revealed how her item song Aao Raja from Gabbar Is Back led to a flood of similar offers, limiting her opportunities to explore diverse roles.
The actress acknowledged that the industry often boxes actors based on their previous work. After her bold appearance in Aao Raja, she was primarily offered roles portraying seductresses or characters centered around item numbers. This repetitive cycle made her realize the importance of being selective about her projects to maintain artistic integrity.
The Challenge of Saying ‘No’
For Chitrangda, rejecting roles that did not align with her artistic vision was not an easy decision. She admitted that actors who decline such offers risk being labeled as “too choosy” or difficult to work with. However, she believes that accepting mediocre work can shorten an actor’s career and diminish their impact.
By consciously turning down roles that relied on objectification, Chitrangda has sought to preserve her identity as a serious performer. She emphasized that constantly repeating similar work can overshadow an actor’s true potential and lead to a gradual decline in audience interest.
Balancing Art with Career Longevity
Despite the industry’s tendency to pigeonhole artists, Chitrangda remains committed to her craft. She believes that taking on meaningful and varied roles is crucial for sustaining a long and respected career in the film industry. According to her, actors must be discerning and patient, waiting for projects that showcase their talent rather than simply accepting offers for visibility.
Her recent portrayal of Nandini Basak, the fierce Leader of the Opposition in Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, shows her range and dedication. This role allowed her to break away from the glamorous stereotype and prove her mettle as a talented performer.
