Adani Green Energy Ltd. announced on Sunday (March 30, 2025) that it has operationalised 480 MW of solar and wind energy capacity involving six plants at Khavda in Gujarat, where it is setting up the world’s largest power plant across energy sources at one location.

“With commissioning of these plants, AGEL’s total operational renewable generation capacity has increased to 14,217.9 MW, [capacity including at Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan locations],” the company said in a regulatory filing.

The targeted 30 GW capacity will be operational in 2029, and project implementation work has been underway as per schedule, according to company officials. With this, the company will have 50 GW capacity by 2030 across its locations in India.

As of Sunday, nearly 5 GW capacity has come up since project work commenced in April 2023 at Khavda, a barren wasteland in Kutch.

The renewable energy facility is coming up on 1,32,943 acres or 53,800 hectares, which is almost as large as Mumbai or five times the size of Paris.

The company has plans to have 26 GW of solar energy from 60 million solar modules and 4 GW of wind energy from 770 giant wind turbines, company officials said.

This project is expected to create 15,200 green jobs and generate 87.4 billion units of clean electricity, which is equivalent to meeting the energy requirements of countries like Belgium and Switzerland.

“The entire Adani ecosystem is helping in the timely execution of this project despite severe challenges faced in the desolate terrain of Khavda, which experiences severe climatic conditions and is devoid of habitation and basic infrastructure,” the officials said.

While Adani New Industries Ltd is manufacturing wind turbines and solar wafers, the transmission network is being laid by Adani Energy Solutions. Logistical solutions are being provided by Adani Ports & SEZ while cement and concrete is supplied by ACC and Ambuja Cement, both group entities. Adani infrastructure is exciting the project, they added.
