Though the batter’s comment should be taken with a pinch of salt, it certainly added intrigue to his future plans as he readies to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
“If India reaches the Olympics final in 2028, might just think of coming out of retirement for that one match. Winning an Olympic medal would be magnificent,” Kohli said on the sidelines of the RCB Innovation Summit on Saturday.

The 36-year-old has time and again given a testament to his terrific fitness standards, most recently in the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, where he delivered terrific outings comprising a century and half-century against Pakistan and Australia respectively.
Kohli sparked his fitness revolution around the 2012-13 period, an episode he recollected in his appearance on ‘Breakfast with Champions’ back in 2018. The batter said that he saw his self on the mirror during the IPL and realised that he needed to transform his fitness levels to stand tall to his peers from across the cricketing globe.
“My transformations came after a few tough tours when I saw the guys lasting on the field longer than us. From the team point of view things were not tough but convincing my mum was tough. She thought I was looking sick. I told her that the world is talking about my training methods and I am not sick. I felt that I was able to do things much better,” he said.
Kohli will return to cricketing action when RCB take field against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
