said, “PM Modi has called upon the countrymen to take it (cleanliness campaign) as a mass movement. In the last 10 years, it has taken the form of a successful mass movement in the country. Today, we all have started to clean the Sambalpur campaign under the Swachhata Abhiyan… This should be done every day, our Sambalpur must be clean, this is our pledge.”
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign by the Government of India. Launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2014, the program aims to achieve a clean India by promoting hygiene and sanitation practices. The program is divided into two major sub-missions: Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban).
The program aims to build toilets in every household, particularly in rural regions, to abolish the practice of open defecation. It promotes the ‘Clean India’ philosophy by ensuring that everyone has access to adequate sanitary facilities. The initiative also encourages cleanliness in public spaces like parks, streets and tourist areas.
In the 2025 Budget, the scheme was allocated ₹12,192 crore, where the rural-centred scheme got ₹7,192 crore and the urban component received ₹5,000 crore.
