Water bodies in the region are flowing below the zero-level mark in various places, and some springs have dried up entirely due to the receding water table, leaving locals worried as tourists are staying away.
The region’s tourism sector has been heavily impacted, with nearly 50% of bookings being cancelled as a result of the snowless winter, PTI reported.

The lack of snowfall has forced authorities to postpone the fifth edition of the Khelo India Winter Games, which were to be held in Gulmarg from February 22.
“Gulmarg has witnessed over 50% cancellations in the last few days due to lack of snowfall,” said Rauf Tramboo, president of the Travel Agents Association of Kashmir (TAAK).
Consequently, hotels have suffered major losses, particularly due to the complete cancellation of the week-long event Khelo India Winter Games. Tourists are disappointed, as many who visit Kashmir want to experience snowfall.
