The new policy will be implemented from the 2025-26 academic year for class 9 students. It will be mandatory for class 10 students from the 2026-27 academic year.
As per an official release, standard Telugu ‘Singidi’ will be replaced with simple Telugu ‘Vennela’ with 089 code for teaching and examinations.

“Implementation of Telugu as a compulsory subject in CBSE, ICSE, IB, and other Board-affiliated schools in Telangana. Replacement of SINGIDI (Standard Telugu) with VENNELA (Simple Telugu) with code (089) as per the CBSE subject list (Language Group -L) for Class IX from the A.Y. 2025-26 & for the X class from the A.Y. 2026-2027,” it read.

The order further stated that the Director of School Education, Telangana, Hyderabad, is requested to take necessary action in the matter, accordingly.
Earlier, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced two board exams for class 10 students from the 2025-26 academic session.
This measure aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which intends to decrease academic pressure by giving students the opportunity to improve their results. A draft policy was released and posted on the CBSE website for feedback from schools, teachers, parents and students until March 9, 2025.

According to the draft policy, the first phase of exams is set to take place from February 17 to March 6 and the second phase is scheduled from May 5 to May 20.
