Other Tata Group companies that hold stakes in Tata Capital include Tata Consumer Products, Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors, and Tata Power. Collectively, these five entities own a 2.4% stake in the company, with Tata Investment Corporation being the largest shareholder among them.
While Tata Investment Corporation holds a 2.2% stake in Tata Capital, Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors, and Tata Power Company each own about 0.1%. Additionally, Tata Consumer Products holds 6.1 lakh shares in Tata Capital as of March 2024.

However, excluding Tata Consumer Products and Tata Investment Corporation, the stocks of the remaining three — Tata Chemicals, Tata Motors, and Tata Power, were trading in the red on Tuesday.
During the financial year 2024, Tata Capital posted its highest-ever net profit of ₹3,150 crore, a growth of 37% from last year. It maintained a credit cost of 0.5% and delivered Return on Equity (RoE) of 17.6% for the year.
Tata Capital received the board approval on Tuesday for its IPO and a rights issue worth ₹1,504 crore. The record date for the rights issue has been set as February 25, 2025. Tata Sons, which holds nearly 93% stake, remains the controlling shareholder of the Tata Group’s non-banking financial company (NBFC).
Tata Capital’s IPO is aimed at complying with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) regulations for “upper layer” non-banking financial companies (NBFCs). The company was classified as an upper-layer NBFC in September 2022, making it mandatory to list on the stock exchanges within three years of the notification.
In October last year, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approved the merger of Tata Capital with Tata Motors Finance (TMFL), paving the way for the creation of India’s 12th largest non-banking financial company (NBFC). Tata Capital’s loan book grew 35% year-on-year in FY24, reaching ₹1.6 lakh crore.
