Late Bollywood legend Rishi Kapoor had an illustrious acting career spanning decades, but there was a time when he was dissatisfied with the repetitive roles being offered to him. Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan recently opened up about Kapoor’s frustrations and how he found excitement in signing diverse roles in his later years.
Speaking to ANI, Rakesh Roshan revealed how Rishi Kapoor would light up whenever he received an interesting offer. “He did amazing work before he left us. All his last films were amazing. He took on different kinds of roles, and he was so happy. You will not believe… he used to call me and say, ‘Aaj maine yeh picture sign ki hai (Today I signed this picture),’” Rakesh Roshan shared.
Kapoor’s enthusiasm for new challenges was evident in the roles he accepted later in life. “Usme main ganja bhi ho raha hoon, buddha ho raha hoon, 80 saal ka. Roz mujhe makeup karna padta hai 4 ghante, 5 ghanta (In that, I’m playing a bald and old role, an 80-year-old. Every day I have to do makeup for 4-5 hours),” he said, showcasing his willingness to transform himself for the craft.
However, there was a phase when Kapoor felt creatively stagnant. “In the middle, yes, he got a little bored. He would say, ‘Yaar, wahi same cheez, wahi role, wahi kar raha hoon (I’m doing that same thing, same role).’ He was a little dissatisfied with his career,” Rakesh Roshan added, highlighting the struggles of an established actor seeking versatility.
Meanwhile, Rakesh Roshan himself is making headlines as he officially steps back from directing Krrish 4. With speculation surrounding the next director of the iconic superhero franchise, Roshan addressed the matter in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. “The day has to come when I have to pass on the baton,” he stated, confirming that he’s ready to let a new filmmaker take over. “It’s better I do it when I’m in my senses, so I can overlook the process and ascertain whether it’s being done correctly. Tomorrow, if I’m not in my senses and I have to pass it on, I won’t know what they’re making,” he explained.
