The temperatures are currently 4-5 degrees above normal and will remain high until tomorrow, IMD told CNBC-TV18. On February 26, temperatures are expected to rise by 1-2 degrees, it added.
The IMD said temperatures may drop by 1-2 degrees on February 27 and 28 but it will not bring any significant relief from the high temperature.

Even though there has been no official communication on this, weather stations like Santacruz show heatwave parameters have been met. There is a heatwave-like condition in the Konkan belt, the sources added.
IMD Scientist Dr Soma Sen Roy, speaking on Western disturbances approaching North Indian region, said, “rainfall will start increasing over the Western Himalayan region. We have heavy rainfall warnings for the region of Feb 26-28.”
“We are expecting an increase in the maximum temperature in the entire north Indian region during the next two days. Thereafter, the temperature is expected to fall when clouds start to appear over the Indian region,” she told ANI.

Earlier in January, IMD predicted above-normal temperatures and below-normal rainfall in February. January also recorded as a warm and dry month.
IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra had said most parts of India were expected to witness below-normal rainfall, except regions in west-central, peninsular and northwest India.

He had mentioned that India received an average rainfall in January at 4.5 mm, which was the month’s fourth lowest since 1901 and third lowest since 2001, PTI reported.
