Almost all auto companies reported positive wholesale momentum in March, as per sales data released by individual companies. While Mahindra, Toyota and Kia reported double-digit growth, Maruti, Tata Passenger Vehicles and Hyundai reported a minor 3% growth. While it was mix bag for commercial vehicle makers, two wheeler companies reported robust sales.
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. sold a total of 1,92,984 units in March 2025 as compared with 1,87,196 units sold a year ago, up 3%. Total sales in the month include domestic sales of 1,53,134 units, sales to other OEM of 6,882 units and exports of 32,968 units.
For the financial year 2024-25 (FY25), the company reported total sales of 22,34,266 units as compared with 21,35,323 units sold in FY24, up 4.63%. Total sales included domestic sales of 17,95,259 units and exports of 3,32,585 units.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) recorded March 2025 sales of 67,320 units (domestic 51,820 units and exports 15,500 units), a growth of 2.6% over last year.
For FY25, the company had total sales of 7,62,052 units which included domestic sales of 5,98,666 units and export sales of 1,63,386 units. SUVs contributed to 68.5% the company’s domestic sales in FY25, it said.
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. reported 3% growth in sales at 51,872 units in March 2025 as compared with 50,297 units in the year-ago period. Annual sales dropped 3% to 5,56,263 units in FY25.
Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) announced that its overall auto sales for March 2025 stood at 83,894 vehicles, a growth of 23%, including exports. In the utility vehicles segment, it sold 48,048 vehicles in the domestic market, a growth of 18% and overall 50,835 vehicles, including exports. The domestic sales for commercial vehicles stood at 23,951.
The company closed the year with 5,51,487 SUVs, the highest ever in its history, with a growth of 20%YoY. “We also closed the year with the highest Vahan registrations with 20% growth (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025) helping us to keep our dealer inventory levels within norms,” the company said.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd, for March 2025 reported sales of 30,043 units as compared with 27,180 units sold in the year ago period, up 11%. For FY25, the company reported a growth of 28% by selling 3,37,148 units as compared with 2,63,512 units in FY24.
Kia India recorded domestic sales of 25,525 units in March, up 19.3% YoY. The Sonet remained the top contributor, accounting for 30% of sales, followed by Seltos, Carens and Syros with 26%, 22% and 20% respectively.
Kia India also achieved annual sales of 2,55,207 units, up 4% YoY. On the export front, it shipped 26,892 units overseas, it said.
JSW MG Motor India reported sales of 5,500 units for March 2025, up 9% Year on Year (YoY). Its electric vehicles—Comet, ZS EV, and Windsor—accounted for over 85% of total sales, the company said.
Tata Motors Ltd. reported a 3% decline in total commercial vehicles (CV) sales in March 2025 at 41,122 units from 42,262 units in March 2004. Annual sales were down 5% to 376,903 units.
Ashok Leyland Ltd. for March 2025 reported total volume of 24,060 units, up 6% over 22,736 units sold a year ago.
VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (A Volvo Group and Eicher Motors joint venture) recorded sales of 12,094 units in March 2025 as compared with 11,242 units in March 2024, up 7.6%. This includes 11,852 units of Eicher brand and 242 units of Volvo brand.
TVS Motor Company reported a growth of 17% with sales from 354,592 units in March 2024 to 414,687 units in March 2025.
During FY25, the company registered a growth of 13% with total sales increasing from 41.91 lakh units in FY24 to 47.44 lakh units. Two-wheeler sales of the company registered a growth of 12% with sales increasing from 38.51 lakh units in FY24 to 43.30 lakh units in FY25. Three-wheelers registered 1.35 lakh units in FY25 as against 1.46 lakh units in FY24.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. for March 2025 reported sales of 1,25,930 units, up 21% over 1,03,669 units sold in March 2024. Of this, domestic sales was 1,05,736 units, up 23% growth from 86,164 units in March last year. Exports for the month totalled 20,194 units, surpassing the 17,505 units exported in March 2024.
For FY25, the company recorded annual sales of 12,56,161 units, up 11% over 11,33,902 units sold in FY24. This includes domestic sales of 10,45,662 units, a 14% rise from 9,21,009 units sold in the last financial year and exports of 2,10,499 units during the same period compared to 2,12,893 units exported in FY24.
