Kim Kardashian recently opened up about her past relationships and engagement rings, revealing a surprising detail about her former marriage to NBA player Kris Humphries. During a candid conversation with her sister Khloe Kardashian and renowned jeweler Lorraine Schwartz on ‘The Kardashians,’ Kim reflected on her memorable jewelry pieces and the emotional baggage they carried.
While discussing her engagement rings, Kim mentioned her first one — a 14 carat cushion cut diamond from her marriage to Damon Thomas which lasted from 2000 to 2004. “I still have it,” she shared, adding that the sentimental value makes it a treasured keepsake.
The conversation then turned to her second engagement ring, an 18-carat emerald-cut diamond from Kris Humphries whom she married in 2011. However, Kim revealed that she no longer owns that particular ring.
“I didn’t keep it,” Kim recalled. “When I was pregnant with North and still legally married to him, Kris insisted I return the ring before our divorce could be finalized.”
Khloe quickly chimed in to remind Kim that she had paid for most of the ring herself. “But I bought it!” Kim emphasized, clarifying that Humphries had only contributed a fifth of the total cost.
Lorraine Schwartz, who designed the ring, added that sometimes it’s best to part ways with engagement rings tied to unhappy memories. While Kim agreed she confessed that a jewelry collection representing her past relationships might have been interesting to keep.
Kim’s third engagement ring came from Kanye West, who proposed in 2013 with a stunning 15-carat cushion-cut diamond. She still possesses that ring and intends to pass it down to her eldest daughter, North West. Kanye later gifted Kim an even larger 20-carat emerald-cut ring during their marriage, but that extravagant piece was tragically stolen during Kim’s traumatic Paris robbery in 2016.
Reflecting on her brief 72-day marriage to Humphries, Kim acknowledged that she felt pressured to go through with the wedding because it was being filmed for ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians.’
“I thought, ‘If I leave now, I’ll be known as the runaway bride and it’ll turn into a huge joke,’” Kim admitted during the show’s 2021 reunion special.
She also took responsibility for mishandling the breakup. “I was so nervous about ending things that I completely went about it the wrong way,” Kim admitted. “I handled it terribly.”
The reality star’s reflections offered a glimpse into the emotional complexities behind her high-profile relationships, demonstrating that even the most glamorous rings can carry difficult memories
