Prithviraj Kapoor had three sons, Raj Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor, and Shashi Kapoor. Kareena Kapoor’s grandfather is Raj Kapoor, while Shashi Kapoor was his younger brother. This makes Shashi Kapoor Kareena’s granduncle. Kareena’s father, Randhir Kapoor, is Shashi Kapoor’s nephew, as he is the son of Raj Kapoor.
Shashi Kapoor’s grandson, Zahan Kapoor, son of Kunal Kapoor, also paid a heartfelt tribute to his ‘Dadaji.’
Taking to Instagram, Zahan shared two rare pictures of the legendary actor. In the first image, Shashi Kapoor is seen sitting in a cozy, book-filled room, likely his home. Dressed in a white kurta-pajama, he holds a book and a pipe, lost in thought. A large portrait of a warrior hangs behind him, adding to the reflective atmosphere of the moment.
The second picture captures the late legendary actor standing in front of Prithvi Theatre, surrounded by posters of various plays. Dressed in a simple white kurta-pajama, he exudes effortless charm and a deep passion for the arts.
Zahan Kapoor wrote a caption, “Salagirah dadaji.”
Shashi Kapoor, a four-time National Film Award winner, was celebrated for his contributions to both Bollywood and international cinema, particularly in Merchant Ivory productions.
Born as the youngest son of Prithviraj Kapoor, he began acting as a child in 1948 with his brother Raj Kapoor’s directorial debut, Aag. His first lead role came in Yash Chopra’s Dharmputra (1961).
He gained prominence with Waqt and Jab Jab Phool Khile, solidifying his place in the industry. His filmography includes classics like ‘Chor Machaye Shor’, ‘Deewaar’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Suhaag’, ‘Kranti’, ‘Namak Halaal’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Kalyug’, and ‘Vijeta.’
In 2017, his health deteriorated due to a chest infection, and he passed away on December 4, 2017, due to liver cirrhosis.
