Sunaina Roshan, sister of Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan, has opened up about her battle with alcoholism, calling it the “worst phase” of her life.
In conversation with Siddharth Kannan, she shared how her addiction took control, leading her to drink throughout the day, suffer memory blackouts, and injure herself.
Sunaina admitted that she turned to alcohol during a difficult emotional phase, using it as a means to numb her pain. However, the addiction soon spiraled out of control, creating a vicious cycle where she would drink to escape anxiety, only to wake up with even worse panic attacks, dehydration, and an overwhelming urge to consume more.
Her family took drastic steps to help her break free from this self-destructive pattern. Her parents, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan and Pinkie Roshan, confiscated her credit card and stopped providing her with money, knowing she would spend it on alcohol. They also limited her access to certain friends who could enable her addiction.
Determined to fight back, Sunaina took the initiative to seek help. She sat down with her parents and expressed her willingness to recover, asking them to find a good rehabilitation center. She said, “I sat my parents down I said this is the environment and I really want to come out of it.”
Eventually, she found a facility herself and spent 28 challenging days in rehab.
Reflecting on her journey, Sunaina shared that her family, including her brother Hrithik, was proud of her decision to turn her life around. Her battle against alcoholism was not easy, but she emerged stronger, proving that with determination and support, recovery is possible.
