While the plains experienced heavy rainfall, the higher altitudes of the valley, including the popular tourist destinations of Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam were hit with moderate to heavy snowfall. In Srinagar, light snowfall was observed, though it still contributed to significant disruptions. The weather office has indicated that conditions would improve by Friday afternoon.
The severe weather caused major disruptions, including a blockage of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to snow accumulation between Ramsoo and Qazigund. In addition, landslides, and mudslides were reported along several parts of the critical route, which serves as the valley’s only all-weather connection to the rest of the country.
ANI reported that the higher reaches of the Kashmir Valley, including the Sonamarg was covered under a thick blanket of snow; affecting vehicular movement in the region.
