Pradeep Ranganathan’s latest entertainer, ‘Dragon’, has achieved a significant milestone at the box office, crossing the Rs 50 crore mark in just a week. The film, which opened to strong numbers, continued its steady performance through the weekdays, maintaining solid collections in both Tamil and Telugu markets.
According to reports from the Sacnilk website, ‘Dragon’ collected approximately Rs 46.15 crore in India net during its first six days. On its seventh day, the film earned around Rs 4 crore, taking its total collection to Rs 50.15 crore. Despite a weekday dip, the film has sustained its hold, especially in Tamil Nadu.
The region-wise occupancy rates indicate decent audience engagement, with ‘Dragon’ recording an overall 23.48% Tamil occupancy on Thursday. Chennai led the way with an impressive 33.25% occupancy, followed by Coimbatore at 23.50% and Madurai at 18.75%. The Telugu version, meanwhile, saw 21.83% overall occupancy, with strong contributions from Hyderabad and other key markets.
Breaking down the daily box office performance, Dragon saw a strong Rs 6.5 crore opening, followed by an impressive surge over the weekend, with Rs 10.8 crore on Saturday and Rs 12.75 crore on Sunday. While Monday saw a predictable drop to Rs 5.8 crore, the collections remained steady in the following days, keeping the film’s momentum intact.
ETimes review for the Pradeep Ranganathan starrer reads, “In any other film, all of these would have stuck out like a sore thumb. But Ashwath’s magic wand — his interesting writing choices — make this an intriguing outing. For instance, simple choices like deciding to not show the love story of Raghavan and Keerthi (Anupama Parameswaran) until it reaches the verge of breakup and then taking us through their cute romance through a sad song makes even the usual plot line interesting. Just like in OMK, Raghavan finds an amazing friend and lover in Keerthi (Anupama Parameswaran), who goes out of her way to keep him happy. But Dragon highlights that sometimes a missed chance is a missed chance. From the rainy nights hinting at a change to second chances and college friendships, both frames and characters remind you of the director’s debut outing, which works organically for his sophomore venture.”
With Dragon maintaining a solid hold and entering its second week, the film is expected to continue its successful run, with the potential to reach even greater milestones in the coming days.
On the other hand, Pradeep Ranganathan’s previous film ‘Love Today’ received good reviews from the audiences and turned out to be a superhit. The film was directed by Pradeep Ranganathan and the story penned by himself along with the writer Ajay Gurunadhan. Ivana played the female lead in the romantic drama.
