Terminal 1 of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is set to reopen in April 2025 with an upgraded capacity to handle 40 million passengers annually. The expansion includes a new runway, 22 boarding bridges, an eastern cross taxiway, additional parking stands, and parallel taxiways aimed at reducing taxiing time.
Following Terminal 1’s reopening, Terminal 2 will shut for maintenance and expansion until September 2025. DIAL CEO Videh Jaipuria told CNBC-TV18 that there is enough room for air traffic growth, with no capacity constraints moving forward.
He projected that by September 2025, Delhi Airport will have sufficient international capacity for the next four years.
Jaipuria highlighted Delhi Airport’s growing global connectivity, noting that it sends more flights per week to Europe and North America than Singapore Airport.

Delhi currently operates 204 weekly flights to Europe versus Singapore’s 200, and 75 flights per week to North America compared to Singapore’s 60.
At present, Delhi Airport handles 54 million domestic passengers annually. With the Terminal 1 revamp, its capacity will increase to 58 million passengers. Once Terminal 2 reopens in September 2025, it will add another 51 million to the airport’s overall capacity.
Meanwhile, Terminal 3 is undergoing enhancements, with additional check-in counters and an expanded international-to-international transfer facility.
Two new piers will be dedicated to domestic and international operations, with further plans to convert an existing domestic pier for international flights.
