The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has passed allegations of unequal pricing by cab firms ANI Technologies Private Limited (Ola) and Uber India Systems Private Limited (Uber) to the Director General (Investigation) for a thorough review.
This step comes after both companies rejected claims of charging different fares for the same rides on Android and iOS devices, following a CCPA letter sent in January asking for their explanations.
The issue surfaced when the CCPA sent notices to Ola and Uber showing fare differences linked to mobile operating systems. Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi labelled it an “initially apparent unfair trade practice” and told the CCPA to investigate.
Both Ola and Uber denied the claims. Uber responded and sayid, “We do not set prices based on a rider’s phone manufacturer. We look forward to working with CCPA to clear up any misunderstanding.”
