The radios will enable secure and reliable information sharing, collaboration and situational awareness via high-speed data and secure voice communication, the ministry said.
It will strengthen the Indian Coast Guards’s capability to fulfil its core responsibilities, including maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, fisheries protection, and marine environment protection, it added. The radios will also enhance interoperability for joint operations with the Indian Navy, it said.
Last week, the Navratna Defence PSU, under the ‘Make in India’ initiative said it had manufactured its 7,000th transmit/receive (T/R) module for the RBE2 radar onboared the Dassault Aviation Rafale and delivered it to Thales.
Earlier this month, the company also bagged orders worth ₹962 crore, including a ₹610 crore contract to supply an Electro-Optic Fire Control System (EOFCS) to the Indian Navy.
EON-51 is an Electro-Optical Fire Control System which provides search, detection and classification of targets using electro-optical and thermal imager devices
“This fully indigenously developed system will be installed and integrated onboard Indian Naval Platforms. The system is capable of panoramic/sector search, tracking all types of targets during day/night and engages the tracked targets with the medium range and short range gun mounts,” the company had said.
BEL shares gained 2.88% to hit an intraday high of ₹260.7 apiece on Thursday, February 20. The stock was up 2.53% at ₹259.8 apiece at 2.30 pm. It has gained 36.3% in the past year.
