Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap recently spoke about John Abraham’s portrayal in his latest movie, ‘The Diplomat’. He stated that the film is set to be one of John’s best performances. Directed by Shivam Nair, the movie features John as Indian diplomat JP Singh.
In a recent interview with The Hindu, Anurag shared his admiration for John’s work in the film. He remarked, “I really liked ‘The Diplomat’. I told John, ‘After a long time, I am seeing you as a very good actor.’ He is not doing unnecessary action or herogiri in the film. He is solely playing a character.” He also showered praise on director Shivam Nair for making the movie truly engaging.
Anurag and John previously worked together on the 2007 film ‘No Smoking’, which initially struggled at the box office but later gained cult status. During their recent discussion, John expressed his eagerness to work on a sequel to ‘No Smoking’ with Anurag. However, while Anurag did not dismiss the idea entirely, he emphasised the need for a compelling story. He explained, “John really means it, but I want a subject. Over time, a film achieves a cult following, making it even more daunting to meet people’s expectations. I want to step into that zone only if the subject matter is unique.”
‘The Diplomat’ also features Sadia Khateeb, Prapti Shukla, Jagjeet Sandhu, Ashwath Bhatt, Sharib Hashmi, Kumud Mishra, Ram Gopal Bajaj, and Benjamin Gilani in key roles. The film is scheduled to hit cinemas on March 14.
