The Expedition single malt whisky is the oldest and rarest single malt whisky ever produced in India, the company said and added that it is poised to capitalise the growing affluence and premiumisation trends in India.
Amrut, renowned for its pioneering role in bringing Indian single malts to both domestic and international markets, has introduced Expedition —that stands as a milestone in the history of Indian distilling. With a 15-year maturation process, this expression sets a new standard for Indian whiskies. It first spent eight years maturing in a specially sourced European sherry cask, which imparts rich and opulent flavours, before moving to a US-sourced ex-bourbon cask for an additional seven years, enhancing its complexity and depth.
Priced at ₹10,50,000 in India ($12,000), Amrut’s Expedition is not only a rare and luxurious offering, but one that reflects the growing wealth and sophisticated taste of Indian whisky connoisseurs.

Rakshit N. Jagdale, Managing Director at Amrut Distillers, called Expedition “very rare, very unique”, adding that the whisky was aged for 15 years in Bengaluru, a city known for its tropical climate, marking a significant achievement in both Amrut’s history and the wider Indian single malt whisky sector.
The market for Indian single malts is rapidly expanding, with brands like Amrut, Indri, and Rampur gaining ground and even surpassing global Scotch brands in sales. The rising affluence of India’s youth and their growing appetite for bespoke, homegrown products is driving this trend, alongside a broader cultural shift towards embracing “Made in India” choices.
Each bottle of Expedition is a work of art, with a handcrafted and painted box containing a numbered and engraved bottle. The bottle features a diamond-cut design, with gold engravings forming a custom pattern, and each unit includes a silver peg measure made by a Bangalore silversmith. The design process for the box is intricate, taking six months and five prototypes to perfect.

Tech innovation also accompanies this luxury whisky. Each bottle is fitted with an NFC tag and comes with a custom authentication card, detailing its origin and release.
“Expedition is not just India’s oldest single malt—it is also the most exquisitely packaged whisky the country has ever seen,” the company stated.
Amrut has launched Expedition across key international markets including India, USA, UK, Europe, Dubai, Singapore, and Australia. With only 75 bottles of this luxury whisky are in existence, the limited-edition release has attracted significant attention from collectors and whisky aficionados around the world.
“This launch is also a tribute to my father, the late Mr. Neelkanth Rao Jagdale, whose vision and pioneering spirit put India on the global whisky map. Seeing Amrut reach this milestone is both emotional and a proud moment for our family. Expedition is not just a whisky—it is history in a bottle,” Rakshit Jagdale was quoted as saying by ET Online.
