The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office has reportedly stated that while foul play is not suspected, the exact cause of death is yet to be determined. Local reports also indicate that the couple’s dog was found dead alongside them.
Hackman, 95, was a two-time Academy Award-winning actor known for his roles in The French Connection (1971) and Unforgiven (1992). He was widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most versatile and bankable stars, with a career spanning decades. After gaining recognition in Bonnie and Clyde (1967), he delivered memorable performances in Mississippi Burning (1988), Superman (1978), and numerous other films.
In the early 2000s, Hackman stepped away from acting on the advice of his heart doctor, choosing a quieter life in New Mexico with his wife. Arakawa, 63, was a classical pianist. The couple had been married since 1991.
Hackman remained largely out of the public eye following his retirement, rarely giving interviews.
