At the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit, the company announced a ₹30,000 crore investment in rooftop solar power, large-scale renewable energy, and electric vehicle (EV) public charging infrastructure. This includes building power plants in neighbouring Bhutan to supply electricity to the state.
MD and CEO Praveer Sinha, speaking to News18 Assam Northeast, said the Tata Group and Assam have a special bond.
“Ratan Tata had a soft corner for Assam, and we are taking forward [his] great legacy,” Sinha said.
Sinha said Tata Power plans to establish power plants in Bhutan to supply electricity to Assam around the clock. He said work is underway on a 500MW power plant 3km inside the Bhutan border, with two more 1,000MW power plants in the pipeline. Assam will be one of the first states to transition to clean energy, Sinha said.
According to Sinha, Tata Power also plans to bring 1 lakh homes onto the power grid. Commending the Assam government’s efforts to enhance the state’s growth trajectory, Sinha said he was glad for support from the government and that Assam has the potential to serve as a gateway to South Asia.
