The internet is filled with reports about actor Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja ending their marriage due to internal issues, with several candid statements from Sunita’s past interviews resurfacing online amid the speculations. One such statement reveals that Sunita has been celebrating her birthdays alone for the past 12 years.
In an old interview with Curly Tales, Sunita shared that she finds joy in spending the day by herself. “I gave all these years to my kids, and now that they are grown up, I want to live for myself,” she added. Her birthday routine begins with a visit to a temple or Gurudwara, followed by an intimate evening. “Jaise hi 8 bajta hai, bottle khol ke, akele cake kaat ke, daaru pee leti hoon (As soon as the clock strikes 8, I open a bottle, cut a cake alone, and have a drink),” she shared with a smile.
Sunita recalled how her relationship with Govinda had its share of quirky moments. She humorously mentioned how Govinda once commented on her bob haircut, calling her a tomboy, which motivated her to grow her hair long. “He asked me to grow my hair long. Then, I started oiling my hair every day, and it grew down to my knees. Love is blind, but now my eyes are opening,” she added playfully.
Sunita further revealed that she and Govinda live separately, with Govinda often staying at their bungalow opposite her apartment. She prefers staying in the flat with her temple and children, while Govinda enjoys hosting gatherings and chatting with friends at the bungalow.
Amid the ongoing divorce speculations, a source close to the family told ETimes, “Sunita apparently sent a separation notice a few months ago, but there has been no movement since then.” At the same time, Govinda shared that he is currently busy with the making of a film and is unable to discuss anything other than work and business.
