Pending for 300-500 days, these 14 CAG reports will be tabled in Delhi Assembly today

Half of them have been pending for over 500 days, and some for almost 300 days – 14 such Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports are set to be tabled in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday (February 25) by the new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. This is bound to compound troubles for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

CNN-NEWS18 has an exclusive list of these CAG reports, with the oldest among them pending for laying in the house since August 2, 2023, which is over 500 days. This is the State Finances Audit Report of the year that ended March 31, 2022.

The other long-pending CAG audit reports pertain to key issues of Delhi – prevention and mitigation of vehicular air pollution in Delhi, the regulation and supply of liquor in Delhi between the period 2017-18 to 2021-22 when the liquor scam took place in Delhi, the Sheesh Mahal-CM house issue, the audit of public health infrastructure and health services, and the working of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

These reports, once tabled, are expected to be sent to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Delhi Assembly and CM Gupta could also announce a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the get to the “bottom of these massive scams”, a senior BJP leader told CNN-NEWS18. “All these 14 CAG reports were kept pending on the table of either the former Chief Minister of Delhi, or the Finance Minister of Delhi. Even the Delhi High Court has earlier slammed the inordinate delay on the part of the former government in not tabling these reports on the floor of the assembly,” the top BJP leader said.

The datelines show most of these reports have been pending for considerable durations, ranging between 300 and 500 days, after CAG submitted them to the then Finance Minister of Delhi between 2023 and 2024. Many of these CAG reports pertain to major models propagated by the former AAP government – from the liquor policy to the health model in the national capital.
