Renowned lyricist Sameer Anjaan, who has crafted some of Bollywood’s most memorable songs, recently opened up about his enduring connection with superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. In a recent interview, he reminisced about beginning his journey in the industry around the same time as the two actors and spoke about their unwavering humility despite their meteoric rise.
In a conversation with Lallantop, Sameer shared insights about his collaboration with the Khans. He recalled how Shah Rukh actively participated in music sessions during the making of ‘Deewana (1992)’. He also revealed that both actors personally approached him for chartbuster songs when they teamed up for films.
“Salman is a superstar today, but we started our careers together. I remember Shah Rukh Khan would sit through so many sittings of Deewana. They always used to tell me, ‘Sir, you give all the hit tracks to Rishi bhaiya (Rishi Kapoor)… give us at least one superhit song.’ Then I wrote Shah Rukh’s songs Koi Na Koi Chahiye and Aisi Deewangi,” he shared.
Sameer further expressed his pride in having contributed to their journey to superstardom, highlighting how their professional relationship has remained warm and respectful over the years.
He also spoke about their stardom and the immense effort that many people have put into making them the superstars they are today. “Ye superstar jo bane hai na usmein humara bhi bahut lahu baha hai (These superstars didn’t emerge overnight; a lot of our hard work and sacrifice went into their success.)” He added that many of his hit songs were performed by Salman and Shah Rukh, which helped him build a friendly relationship with them.
Anjaan had a personal connection with Salman as he was close to his father, legendary screenwriter Salim Khan. The lyricist also spoke about writing songs for Salman’s upcoming film Sikandar. As someone who often visited their home and shared a family-like bond with him, he always found it easy to communicate with Salman. “We were like family. He was never arrogant with me,” he added.
