Choreographer-actor Ganesh Acharya addressed the allegations against him after a Mumbai court dismissed Tanushree Dutta’s sexual harassment case, which also involved veteran actor Nana Patekar. The case was filed in 2018 during the MeToo movement.
Talking to India Today, Ganesh expressed his distress over the allegations made by Tanushree Dutta. He questioned why the accusations were made, maintaining that he had always been truthful throughout the case. Acharya stated, “I got a clean chit. She was very wrong about that matter. I don’t even know why she did it and what exactly happened, but because of it, we went through a lot of distress.” He emphasized the importance of truth, referencing the saying “Sachchai Chhup Nahin Sakti,” and noted that his lawyer had already addressed the matter.
A magistrate court rejected Dutta’s protest petition against the closure of her sexual harassment case against Nana Patekar and others. The police had found the FIR to be “malicious and false” due to lack of evidence. The court cited the time limit for pursuing the case, which dated back to 2008, as a reason for the dismissal.
After the case was dismissed, the lawyer for Nana and Ganesh released a statement saying, “Finally, justice served to actor Nana Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, producer Sami Siddiqui, and director Rakesh Sarang.”
Tanushree Dutta was a key figure in India’s #MeToo movement in 2018. She accused Nana Patekar, Ganesh Acharya, and others of harassing her on the set of ‘Horn Ok Pleassss’ in 2008. She claimed Patekar touched her inappropriately and that Acharya and the producer supported him. The incident led her to leave the film industry.
