Located in Belora, the Amravati Airport was originally developed by the Public Works Department in 1992, but remained unused for public purposes. The state-run Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has since upgraded the facility with an extended runway and other regulatory improvements to meet licensing standards.
This initiative is part of the Maharashtra government’s broader effort to enhance its aviation infrastructure, which also includes airports in Chandrapur, Dhule, Shirdi, and Navi Mumbai.
Fadnavis shared the news on X, noting that the grant of the aerodrome licence is a significant milestone, opening the way for commercial flights to depart from Amravati, which will improve regional connectivity and offer economic benefits.
