The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib after a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
‘Sudhasadan’ was named after Sheikh Hasina’s late husband, nuclear scientist MA Wazed Miah. Other seized properties belong to her son Sajib Wazed Joy, daughter Saima Wazed Putul, sister Sheikh Rehana, and her nieces Tulip Siddique and Radwan Mujib Siddique.
On February 6, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs protested to the Indian Government over statements made by Sheikh Hasina on various platforms, including social media. She was accused of causing instability in Bangladesh.
The Bangladesh Foreign Ministry expressed concern, saying Hasina’s remarks were affecting public sentiment. Bangladesh asked India to take steps to prevent her from making such statements while in the country.
In August 2024, a student-led movement led to the removal of Sheikh Hasina as Prime Minister. She fled to India, and an interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus was formed.
