The Times of India (TOI) has reported that head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar will hold discussions with Rohit in the aftermath of the tournament regarding the route that he looks to embrace in the ODI format going forward. Rohit, apparently, understands that there is still a fair bit of cricket left in him. There have been discussions regarding Virat Kohli’s future too, but not as much anxiety exists in the camp on that topic.

“Rohit still believes there is some cricket left in him. He has been told to communicate his plans going forward. Retiring is his call but there will be another discussion around continuing with captaincy,” a BCCI source told TOI.
He added, “Rohit himself understands the need to have a stable captain if the team wants to prepare for a World Cup. There have been talks with Kohli too but there doesn’t seem to be much anxiety around him.”
However, the final call on this will be based on Rohit’s decision after the tournament.
“The board will wait for Rohit’s decision after the Champions Trophy. If by any chance he chooses to retire, then the board will see what needs to be done. One can’t discount the fact that he won the T20 World Cup in July and has led well in the Champions Trophy as well,” the source further explained.
Further, the BCCI is also analysing the players who could be a part of the Grade A+ contract moving forward. Currently, Rohit is accompanied by Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah in that bracket, however, with three of them not playing all formats now, a closer look could be taken on that.
