Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Vantara, a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation centre in Gujarat. The Prime Minister interacted with various species of animals, such as Asiatic lion cubs, white lion cubs, clouded leopard cubs and others. Interestingly, the White Lion cub he fed was born at the centre after its mother was rescued and brought there for care.

PM Modi also witnessed an Asiatic Lion undergoing an MRI and a leopard undergoing life-saving surgery after being hit by a car on the highway.

Rescued animals at Vantara are housed in environments similar to their natural habitat. The centre focuses on conservation projects for Asiatic lions, snow leopards, and one-horned rhinos, among others.

He had close interactions with many ferocious animals, including golden tigers, snow tigers, white lions, snow leopards, and chimpanzees. PM Modi also saw some unique animals like a two-headed snake and a two-headed turtle.

During his visit, he saw elephants enjoying their jacuzzi time, a part of the centre’s hydrotherapy pools that support the recovery of elephants suffering from arthritis and foot problems.

He also visited the Elephant Hospital, which is the largest such hospital in the world.

Additionally, he released parrots rescued at the centre and interacted with the doctors, staff and workers managing the facilities.

Located in Jamnagar district, this sanctuary was established by Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation. Vantara is home to over 2,000 species and more than 1.5 lakh rescued animals, including endangered and threatened species.

This sanctuary, which spans an impressive 3,000 acres within the Reliance Jamnagar Refinery Complex, acts as a hub for animal care and preservation.

During his visit, PM Modi explored various facilities, including the wildlife hospital, which boasts advanced veterinary equipment like MRI, CT scans, and ICUs, among others, as well as multiple departments like wildlife anesthesia, cardiology, nephrology, endoscopy, dentistry and internal medicine.
