According to outage-tracking website DownDetector, more than 4,400 users reported problems with the messaging app around 9 PM. Frustrated users took to platform X (formerly Twitter) to share memes and check if others were experiencing similar issues, making #WhatsAppDown a trending topic in India.

While WhatsApp has yet to issue an official statement, the disruption sparked comparisons to a recent outage experienced by workplace messaging app Slack. Slack had acknowledged “issues with various API endpoints, sending and receiving messages, and some threads loading.”
At the peak of Slack’s outage, over 3,000 users had reported problems, with some services gradually being restored by mid-morning Wednesday. It remains unclear whether WhatsApp’s outage is linked to a broader technical issue affecting multiple platforms.
