Satellite images captured by the INSAT 3DR show convective clouds associated with the Western Disturbance over North West India. The IMD said high moisture feeding was also taking place over northwest India in lower tropospheric levels from the Arabian Sea.

The Met Department also predicted light rainfall in several parts of Delhi, including Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Seelampur, Red Fort, President House, Rajeev Chauk, ITO, India Gate, Akshardham and others.

The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed due to accumulated snow in the region between Ramsoo and Qazigund, while landslides and mudslides blocked the stretch between Nashri and Navyug Tunnel. Numerous vehicles, including trucks, passenger vehicles and buses, were halted at Jakhin, and Udhampur.

Parts of Jammu and Kashmir have received consistent precipitation, including rain and snow, causing temperatures to plunge dramatically.

The weather department also predicted that Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh would experience thunderstorms with lightning, hail and gusty winds as well as heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Punjab. It also forecast very heavy rainfall over Himachal Pradesh in the early morning hours of March 1.

The Lahaul and Spiti Police issued an avalanche alert for the region on Friday. “According to the DGRE and HPSDMA, there is a snow avalanche warning (Danger Level 3, Orange) in District Lahaul & Spiti up to 28th February 2025 (1700 hrs. IST) (enclosed). According to the advisory, medium-size avalanche triggering is possible on a few extreme slopes and restriction of movement to only safe routes is advised”, read the press release.
Meanwhile, torrential rain has lashed lower areas of Kullu district for the last 24 hours, leading to flash floods and landslides. Efforts are on to retrieve damaged vehicles. The administration has issued an alert to the people living in the areas around the rivers and drains and is trying to restore electricity, traffic, and drinking water services.

The IMD also predicted widespread light to moderate rainfall and snowfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the western Himalayan region on February 28. Additionally, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to receive heavy rainfall and snowfall on Friday.
It also predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected over west Uttar Pradesh, east Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on February 28 and March 1.
