IndiGo strengthened its market dominance, increasing its share to 65.2% in January from 64.4% in December 2024. Meanwhile, the Air India Group, which includes Air India, Air India Express, and Vistara, saw its market share decline from 26.4% to 25.7%.
Among other airlines, Akasa Air recorded a slight increase in market share, rising to 4.7% in January from 4.6% in December, while SpiceJet’s share fell from 3.3% to 3.2%.
Punctuality slips below 80% for all airlines
On-time performance (OTP) declined across the board, with no airline surpassing the 80% mark at the six major metro airports—Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.
IndiGo had the highest OTP at 75.5%, followed by Akasa Air at 71.5%. The Air India Group recorded an OTP of 69.8%, while SpiceJet ranked the lowest at 54.8%.
Flight cancellations remained a concern, with the overall cancellation rate for scheduled domestic airlines standing at 1.62% last month. Fly Big recorded the highest cancellation rate at 17.74%, followed by Fly91 (5.09%) and Alliance Air (4.35%).
In total, cancellations affected 41,119 passengers, with airlines paying ₹46.46 lakh in compensation and facilities. Flight delays impacted 1,78,934 passengers, leading to ₹2.38 crore in facilitation payouts.
