The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar expanded its cabinet on Wednesday, 26 February, with the induction of seven new ministers. The expansion is particularly significant in light of the upcoming Bihar Assembly election, scheduled for October 2025. This marks the final cabinet expansion before the election.

Bihar Governor Arif Mohammed Khan administered the oath. Following the expansion, the state cabinet now comprises 37 members. This development comes after the resignation of BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal from his position as Revenue Minister. Speaking to the press, Jaiswal stated that he stepped down in adherence to the party’s “one person, one post” policy.

The seven new ministers sworn into the cabinet are: Sanjay Saraogi (Darbhanga), Sunil Kumar (Biharsharif), Jibesh Kumar (Jale), Raju Kumar Singh (Sahebganj), Moti Lal Prasad (Riga), Vijay Kumar Mandal (Sikti), and Krishan Kumar Mantoo (Amnour).

Sanjay Saraogi, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), is a member of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from Darbhanga. In the 2020 election, he defeated Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Amarnath Gami.

Sunil Kumar is a four-time member of the Bihar Assembly. In the 2020 Assembly election, he won the Biharsharif seat, defeating RJD candidate Sunil Kumar.

Jibesh Kumar currently represents the Jale constituency in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. In the 2020 Bihar election, he secured 87,376 votes to defeat Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Maskoor Usmani.

Raju Kumar Singh won the Sahebganj Assembly constituency in the 2020 Bihar election on a Vikassheel Insan Party (VIP) ticket. He began his political career with the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP).

Moti Lal Prasad is a two-term legislator from the Riga Assembly constituency.

Vijay Kumar Mandal, a five-time MLA representing the BJP, won the Sikti (Araria) seat in the 2020 Bihar election, defeating Shatrughan Prasad Suman.

Krishan Kumar Mantoo won the Amnour seat in the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, defeating RJD candidate Sunil Kumar by a margin of 3,681 votes.
